Carl Sagan Memorial Station, located in the Ares Vallis region of Mars (19.5°N, 32.8°W), began transmitting data back to Earth on Sol 1 when Pathfinder accomplished touchdown at (Earth time) 10:07 AM Pacific Daylight Time on July 4, 1997. Planetary science experiments and photography was done from the station and the robotic rover Sojourner.
Explore "what a long strange trip it's been" at the Mars Missions Web Site where you can go all the way back to the 1960's Mariner Program.
The text and photo image of the Pathfinder launch vehicle was posted December, 1996, on my original web site Bert's Photo Gallery.
