Memorial Day holiday weekend
In the mountains up north and ‘round the bend
Family gathers together for time to spend
Having fun, relaxing … nothing special to tend
Our dog, Roy, barks and yelps at cooking smells
The kids run and play laughing and making yells
At the critters and bugs they find in the dell
‘round the campsite all there lovingly jell
Daddy roots through woodpile, logs and rocks
Finding worms for use later on the pond dock
Where girls giggle watching fish dart among the rocks
They later find catching fish is natural of their stock
“Daddy, Hurry! I need another worm on my hook.”
Shouts Lily and Megan excited with gleaming looks
At nibbling sun fish who just stealthily took
Bait from tackle and scurried back into their nooks
With persistence both sisters and Molly their friend
Caught small blue gills again and again and again
Aunts, uncles, mommy, daddy, grandma and grandpa
Smiled and laughed at the scene of little girls they saw
Fishing at His pond and reaping His gifts
Of nature and family and friendship and fish
